Located in Looe harbour, the Skipper Andre has been fishing all his life and is a true fisherman with a love of the sea and its wildlife. Andre is fully insured and qualified, he offers various types of fishing depending on the time of the year; from reef, inshore (caves etc.) and shark. Normally all bait and equipment are included in the price, so it’s worth considering even if you haven’t brought any of your own equipment. Prices are approximately £50 per person during high season (as of 2020) and departure is set on the tidal times. I always recommend you arrange your trip with him in advance, as he can only take 8 people at a time.

Menheniot karting has been established for a considerable number of years and is the main Karting attraction within Cornwall. All karts are outdoors and vary in power output depending on age and experience of the driver. Full equipment is provided, but regardless of the weather, Karting is great fun for all. Cornish Orchards is an amazing small business. They are primarily a farm shop that sells their own locally sourced and produced cider i.e. grown and made on their own farm. Their super friendly staff enable all visitors to ask questions and taste the various different ciders they have to offer. The staff are well trained and can tell you all about the process and the history behind their journey of cider making. They offer a guided informative tour, but again, it’s worth giving them a call to ensure there is availability.

Great Trethew Trekking is only down the road from Menheniot. The owner is a true local to the village of Menheniot and they offer a lovely day out for both beginners and experts. They are based in tranquil peace and quiet of a 40 acre woodland on the outskirts of the village. They have a beautiful selection of horses and ponies for you to choose from and Great Trethew is open 7 days a week. Feel free to give them a call to allow them explain their services in more detail. At Sea Explores you can hire various equipment to explore the Cornish coast, it’s a great way to spend the day at the beach with the family. Sea Explores offer lessons for all ages so no experience is needed. The water quality is excellent around this part of the coast so why not jump in head first and try their equipment, whether it be a Sea Scooters, Paddle Boards, open Kayaks or Surf Boards etc. They also have deck chairs and wind breakers for you to use (hired). With a small shop and cafe on site, you can easily make a day of it. Parking is also very close so no need to carry everything miles to and from the car.
Costal Walk. (For the family).
Walking Distance = 5 miles each way.
A coastal walk from Looe to Polperro is a wonderful experience to have. There are rock pools on the local beaches, remnants of shipwrecks and tales of smugglers along the way. The walk ends with a stroll through the picturesque fishing village of Polperro. I do advise suitable footwear and that you research where you want to go before hitting the costal path. I tend to park at the end of Hannerfore Point where parking is free. Use postcode PL13 2DJ as a guide.

The ‘Smuggler’s Way’ walk. (Experienced walkers only).
Walking Distance = 36 miles each way.
I have always wanted to complete this walk but unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to do so. The walk starts from Boscastle, over Davidstow on the northern edge of the moor. From here it climbs up onto Roughtor and Brown Willy before descending to Jamaica Inn at Bolventor.
From here the worst is over, the village of St Neot is passed and by the time you reach Dobwalls, the moor is behind you. You drop into the verdant West Looe Valley and follow the river for around seven miles down to Looe and its historic fishing port. You can find guided tours on the internet, and coaches will drop you off at certain locations from as little as £5.

Adrenalin Quarry is the place to go at the minute and is becoming more popular as the years pass. They offer a wide range of activities such as an Aqua Park, cliff jumping by zip line, a giant swing and axe throwing just to name a few. Unfortunately, some activities are restricted to age, but it is well worth considering and making enquires to see if you would like to visit. The other added bonus, it is within walking distance from the cottage, but very well hidden.

For those who like local performing arts, Sterts is the local place to go. For a small theatre, the company certainly has lots of different shows and entertainment for all ages. Based outside in a tent, the atmosphere is somewhat different to a conventional theatre. Have a look on their website for current and up and coming shows. Again, very popular with the locals.

Who doesn’t want to go swimming or play golf whilst on holiday? St Mellion offers a lovely environment to relax and enjoy a wide range of sporting activities. You may have heard of them before; they are world-famous for hosting the Ryder Cup Golf Championships! They also have many packages of spa treatments for those who are interested in a little pamper and relaxation. For prices, please contact them first, prices vary considerably. For those who want slides etc, Liskeard have a swimming pool in the town’s leisure centre. However, we tend to use the pool at Bodmin which is excellent (Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin PL31 1DE).
